CoBotXpeRience

The Project

CoBotXpeRience aims to make cobot programming accessible and intuitive through immersive, XR-based training. Addressing the MASTER-XR Educational Challenge 4, the project integrates different Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies of FifthIngenium headsets and MAGOS haptic gloves to deliver a realistic, gesture-controlled learning experience tailored to non-expert users. The training program combines theoretical instruction with interactive XR modules, enabling participants to gain both conceptual understanding and hands-on practice in safe, simulated industrial environments.

Technology

Structured as a short, modular course, CoBotXpeRience is designed for VET and university students as well as time-constrained industrial professionals. It covers essential topics such as cobot safety, motion planning, sensor integration, intuitive programming, and end-effector control. Two immersive XR sessions – MANIPULAY XR and CoBotXpeRience – allow users to experiment with robot kinematics, assembly planning, and human-robot collaboration using natural gestures.

Training activities are anchored in two real-world industrial demonstrators: the collaborative motorbike assembly workstation at MADE Competence Center and the pick-and-place cobot station at JOiiNT Lab (Intellimech).

Both are replicated in AR (for on-site training) and VR (for remote participation), ensuring scalability and accessibility.

By combining

CoBotXpeRience enhances skill retention, safety awareness, and user confidence. The project contributes to human-centric Industry 5.0 education, fostering inclusive access to robotics skills, accelerating workforce reskilling, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry in the field of XR-enabled cobot training.
