HRC-XR Trainer

The Project

The HRC-XR Trainer project introduces a new way for people to learn how humans and robots can safely and effectively work together. Using affordable immersive technology such as virtual and mixed reality headsets, it transforms complex industrial concepts into engaging, hands-on learning experiences for everyone — not just experts.

Through interactive simulations, learners enter realistic work environments where they can explore how robots move, how to stay safe around them, and how to make responsible decisions when collaborating with machines. The experience blends fun, game-like challenges with ethical and ergonomic guidance, helping users understand both the opportunities and responsibilities of human-robot teamwork.

Technology

The learning journey unfolds in three modules: learners first discover the basics of robotics and HRC using MANIPULAY XR, exploring robot motion and safe interaction zones. With EMPOWER, they practice safe behavior through realistic task simulations, learning to recognize hazards and collaborate efficiently with robotic partners. Finally, ERGON-XR offers ergonomic coaching, guiding users through simulated workflows and giving personalized feedback on posture, gaze, and body strain.

Developed by the International Hellenic University, Pi tech, and PLATON School, the platform brings together research, education, and innovation in an inclusive way. It can be used in schools, universities, or at home, supporting learners of all ages to build confidence in the fast-changing world of automation.

By making Human-Robot Collaboration education more open and engaging, HRC-XR Trainer aims to inspire curiosity, improve safety awareness, and prepare future generations for workplaces where humans and robots cooperate seamlessly.
