ICETeachXR

Industrial Compute Engineering teaching with eXtended Reality

ICETeachXR will demonstrate the use of a VR-enhanced industrial digital twin for the design of specific learning activities within the Master’s degree in Computer Engineering for Intelligent Systems (CEIS) of the University of Verona. It will leverage the Industrial Computer Engineering (ICE) lab, an advanced facility available to the students, demonstrating Industry 4.0 and 5.0 technologies.

This lab includes complete and reconfigurable production line equipped with an assortment of heterogeneous devices grouped into manufacturing cells: autonomous storage and logistics, robotic assembly, quality control, additive and subtractive manufacturing, functional testing, mobile robots, smart monitoring systems, human subjects’ tracking and more. Everything is programmable and monitored with an industrial digital twin.

Technology

An immersive VR interface fully integrated with the digital twin (ICETwinVR) allows users to monitor and control the machines remotely. We plan to integrate ICETwinVR with the VIROO platform, adding specific components to design learning tasks for students of selected courses of the Master’s degree.

The resulting tool will be used to design and validate the learning environment with specific activities in selected courses of our Master’s degree program. In the ICETeachXR project, using the enhanced ICETwinVR application, we will design specific interactive learning tasks that can be done in the real physical lab and in the virtual twin and verify the impact or the immersive VR experience comparing traditional and VR-enhanced learning.
