Immersive Vocational Training in Robotics
SkillXR aims to redefine occupational robotics training through an immersive, multi-modal simulation platform designed for forklift and reach truck operations. Developed in accordance with the Horizon Europe MASTER Challenge (EC-11), the system bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world operational skills in robotics-intensive industries. At the heart of SkillXR is the Nexarium simulator, a realistic physical cockpit equipped with functional joysticks, control panels, a 2DoF motion platform, and a Meta Quest 3 headset. This setup provides visual, haptic, and proprioceptive feedback, creating a hands-on learning experience that mirrors industrial environments. Integrated multi-camera and audio systems enable real-time instructor control and communication.
Technology
The training process follows structured briefing, action, and reflection phases, supported by an LMS-integrated instructor dashboard for real-time monitoring, performance analytics, and voice feedback. Developed in Unity 3D and distributed via the VIROO Single Player SDK, the simulator content ensures full compatibility with the MASTER-XR ecosystem.
SkillXR is being implemented in collaboration with the coordination of Bursa Technical University (BTU), Nara Educational Technologies (Nara) as the developer and commercializer, and Borçelik Technical Academy (BTA). The project progresses through three phases: content development, VIROO integration, and a large-scale pilot test consisting of more than 50 sessions. Ultimately, SkillXR offers a scalable training solution that enhances safety, efficiency, and workforce readiness.
