Xtended Reality – Safe Human-robot Interaction Education for Learning on Digital Shopfloors
XR-SHIELDS is an XR-based demonstrator and training program for the preventive design of safe, ergonomic human-robot collaboration (HRC) on digital shopfloors. It is aimed at those responsible for shop floor design and management, such as factory planners and safety engineers. The focus is on identifying, assessing, and eliminating typical HRC risks in order to prevent accidents at work while increasing efficiency and productivity.
Technology
During training, participants find themselves on a virtual shop floor, e.g., an HRC-supported assembly line. Their task is to identify safety and health risks from various perspectives, e.g., safety zones, sensor technology/monitoring for person recognition, visibility of robot actions, or ergonomics. Risks are selected from a catalog and addressed with measures from a toolbox, so that direct feedback can be given during the training.
XR-SHIELDS enables participants to create company-specific training scenarios that correspond to their own shop floor layout.
Using low/no-code functions of the VIROO Single Player app platform, workstations, robots, and employees can be selected, arranged, and adapted to their own processes on the virtual shop floor. This allows real HRC workstations to be realistically replicated with their safety zones, presence/monitoring sensors, visibility of robot actions, and ergonomic requirements. During training, identified risks are addressed with measures from the toolbox, and direct feedback supports the iterative improvement of the company-specific scenario.
