X-HRC

eXtended Human-Robot Collaboration

X-HRC is an educational XR experience designed to make Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC) accessible and engaging for everyone. Jointly developed by the University of Málaga (UMA) and MetaMedicsVR (MMVR), the project transforms complex industrial robotics concepts into immersive, interactive learning experiences tailored to the general public.

Technology

Through virtual reality simulations, users will step inside realistic factory environments where humans and robots, “cobots, ”work side by side on assembly lines, quality inspections, and logistics tasks. The experience introduces key principles of HRC such as shared workspaces, perception zones, safety barriers, and ethical issues related to automation and job transformation.

Using hand tracking, gesture-based interaction, and voice guidance, the content allows users to intuitively explore industrial collaboration scenarios without prior technical knowledge.

The application will be fully compatible with VIROO and the MASTER XR platform, ensuring wide accessibility on commercially available headsets such as Meta Quest 3.

Beyond technology, X-HRC aims to improve public understanding of robotics and foster social acceptance of automation in modern industry. By bringing together UMA’s academic expertise in robotics and MMVR’s immersive training know-how, the project represents a bridge between research, education, and society, making industrial robotics visible, understandable, and inspiring for all audiences.
